The surgery
The fatty deposits are suctioned out by making a tiny incision through which a small tube or “cannula” is inserted. The tube is connected to a source of suction, somewhat like a gentle vaccum cleaner. The tube is then passed within the fatty tissue so that unwanted fat cells are loosened and suctioned away.
This surgical procedure is usually performed by Dr. Fanous on an outpatient basis.
Anesthesia without general anesthesia
In general, local anesthesia with sedation is used.
After Surgery
Most patients experience some bruising, minimal discomfort and mild swelling which may last for a few weeks.
Most patients resume normal activity or return to work within a few days following the surgery.
It takes up to six months to a year before the final result of surgery is apparent.
Following your procedure, you will usually be required to wear an elastic dressing for a few hours daily to provide support and to maintain your new shape.
Risks
There are risks as in any surgical procedure, such as infection, bleeding, scarring, skin irregularities, discoloration, asymmetry, numbness, anesthesia reactions, skin necrosis, etc.
