Details of surgery
A needle attached to a syringe is inserted into any area which has a thick layer of fat such as in the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, knees, etc.
Fat cells are aspirated into the syringe, then carefully injected into the area to be treated.
Part of the transplanted fat tends to shrink. This is why more fat volume than needed is usually injected. A second fat injection may be needed in the future.
Anesthesia without general anesthesia
In general, local anesthesia with sedation is used.
After the surgery
Most patients experience some bruising and minimal discomfort. However, the swelling may last for a few weeks.
Recovery period
Most patients resume normal activity or return to work within a few days following surgery.
It takes up to six months before the final result of surgery is apparent. However, a vast majority of patients are functional and presentable in 2 to 3 weeks.
Risks
There are risks as in any surgical procedure, such as infection, bleeding, scarring, skin irregularities, resorption of the fat, skin necrosis, pulmonary embolism, occular embolism, etc.
